In 1880, Adriana Romein started a tea garden with a children's playground in her husband's backyard. She named it Plaats Lommerrijk, because of the shady surroundings under the chestnut trees.
Families enjoyed the panoramic view of the Bergse Plas lake from her garden. She served them milk, lemonade, beer, and slices of farmhouse bread with sweet milk cheese.
And now, 145 years later, Lommerrijk is still the cozy, welcoming place under the chestnut trees where people feel at home. Just as Mrs. Romein had in mind in 1880.

It was with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to our director, Monique Delfgaauw, at the end of June 2025.
Monique was an indispensable force within Lommerrijk for 40 years. What started as a gap year grew into a lifelong commitment to our location. At the age of 21, Monique applied for a job at Lommerrijk, with the idea of staying temporarily. But her talent for hospitality and her strong commitment did not go unnoticed. In the years that followed, she held various positions and grew step by step with the company. In 2012, Monique was appointed director, a role that suited her perfectly. Under her leadership, Lommerrijk grew into the trusted and beloved location it is today. Her drive, personal approach, and eye for detail ensured that guests and colleagues always felt welcome.
We are enormously grateful to her for everything she has done and will continue to remember her fondly.
